Bryan Appleton Designs

Yesterday I went to the antiques fair in Alameda with my mom and dad. I only got one item that will probably show up in a post later, I got the seller down to $12 so it was a good deal. while I found a lot that was pretty cool this seller was by far my favorite. The artist uses old wood from anywhere he finds it and turns it into fabulous furniture. I would have loved to have one of his pieces. The benches were wonderful and just the right proportions. He also makes custom pieces. Check out his website here.

This piece used stained glass behind the panes but you would never know it from the picture.

Finished footstool

I got this footstool for free on Freecycle! It's not fabulous and clean lined but it was free! I like how it turned out!

Before

After

Finished the landing strip!

I guess I would call it the landing strip, I know that brings other things to mind for some of you. It sits by the front door and catches our shoes, keys, mail and whatever crap I put there. I'm not totally sold on how it turned out, I like it but I think it's a bit too green and should have been a bit more understated but oh well, I'll live with it for a while.

Finished the bookshelf

This bookshelf started out as a plain wood one. More than a year and a half ago I painted it red and green which you can see in the crappy picture to the left. Well with the new colors I have in the apartment it didn't work anymore, and who is to say that it ever worked before. I stripped and repainted it last weekend. Some of you may ask why I stripped and and why I didn't just paint over the green and red paint. Well when I painted it I couldn't get the better quality paint that dries nicely so I got crappy paint at H.D. and it was forever tacky. I always buy Dunn Edwards paint because it is the best! Lesson learned. Anyhow, I repainted it and used a paper from Paper Source for the back of the shelves. There is nothing on the top right now because the polyeurethane needs to cure a bit more.

Awesome furniture website

So the chair I posted below is available on this website. I looked through their already sold items and they have some awesome vintage pieces. Most of them are Eames era and of a Danish style. Just picture how awesome they could be reupholstered in some cool new fabric! I would love to have a vintage piece of furniture like these.
