Such a huge dissapointment

I know we are all so tired of politics right now and just need a break. However I feel the need to share my disappointment.
Shame on you people of California, shame shame shame. I am so disappointed with the people of this state that has been my home for my entire life. I thought we were forward thinking and accepting of others, I thought we were progressive and were going to show the rest of this country how it should be done. I just can’t believe that prop 8 passed. I’m very saddened by this and while I am very happy that Obama is our President elect, it is shadowed and darkened by the fact that we as a state majority passed prop 8.
I have no eloquent ways to say this, I’m not typically political and I’m not any good at debating. What is so wrong with letting a gay or lesbian couple get married? What is it doing to you? Nothing. How would you like it if someone told you that you could not marry the person you love, or take away your right to vote, or tell you that because you are (fill in the blank) you have to sit in the back of the bus or use a different drinking fountain. IT’S DISCRIMINATION!!!! Plain and simple. It’s disgusting and degrading and wrong.
How many people out there voted no simply because they think the thought of a gay or lesbian couple is gross? I can’t tell you how much it hurts to think that some people are so close minded that they might not have even researched this prop and simply voted to ban gay marriage because of this. I can understand having religious convictions and voting yes because of them. I can understand it and respect it even though I disagree with it. I cannot however understand, respect or condone taking marriage away from people that love each other just because people think it’s gross.
This may seem extreme to some, but I don’t see how doing this is any different than the discrimination of African Americans years ago, I equate taking the right of marriage away from people to the injustices that so wrongly happened to the black people of our country.
Does it sound familiar that the majority is denying the rights of a minority? It’s not right. I urge people to think for themselves and to look past their personal feelings about a lesbian or gay relationship and think about the rights that we should all share.
It’s about equality for all.
I personally will continue to support the permanent passing of a law to give gay couples the right to marry. It’s the right thing to do.

Well said and I am with you on the disapointment I feel in California that this issue was even on the ballot to start with, let alone it passing.
